Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a nice weekend and Easter Sunday. The weather in the DC area was so gorgeous the past few days, it’s finally starting to feel like Spring. I had such a nice weekend because my mom and sister were visiting and thought I would share some of the highlights and good eats and drinks that we had.
My mom was visiting from Cleveland and my little sister from Los Angeles. On Friday morning we drove into DC to meet up with my older sister at her studio apartment. We took an uber to a restaurant I have been wanting to try for a healthy lunch called The Little Beet. They have lots of veggie, protein, and hearty grain options. You could make your own bowl or order one of the pre-made bowls, which is what I did. Mine had chicken, quinoa, beets, butternut squash, goat cheese, and arugula with a side of dressing. My mom made her own bowl with wild rice, chicken, and roasted broccoli. And my sisters got a salmon roll, which is basically a sushi burrito. It was all so delicious. I love finding healthy spots where you can grab a quick bite to eat.
After lunch we went to Bluejacket for a few adult beverages. For those of you that are local Bluejacket is located a few blocks down from the Nationals baseball Stadium. My husband and I discovered it this past summer when we were looking to grab a bite to eat before a game. Bluejacket has a wide variety of beers on tap that they brew in house. The atmosphere is really unique and my family all loves a good cold one. You could either order a small sample and basically ‘make your own flight’ or a pint so it was fun taste testing everyones selections.
After a few drinks, we were hungry again and walked back to Capital Hill, where my sister lives and each got a slice of pizza from We the Pizza. YUM! It was an exhausting day so after that we settled in for the night at an airbnb so I didn’t have to worry about driving back and snuggled up watching some HGTV, my moms favorite.
Saturday morning we walked around Eastern Market sipping on our coffees. Eastern market has an indoor area with meats and cheeses, and outside is all the fresh produce and flea market vendors. I usually always find a cute scarf or piece of jewelry. After walking the market we headed to Dupont for brunch at The Commissary DC. We had to put our name in for a table so we walked next door to Lululemon where I splurged and bought a new tank and sports bra. This is actually my first Lululemon purchase and I have a good feeling I’m going to be obsessed! I definitely think it’s worth it to invest in good quality workout clothes because you need to wash them so often and having cute outfits makes working out more fun. Totally worth the splurge!
And brunch was absolutely delicious! I ordered an open faced egg sandwich which was on sourdough bread with pesto, cheese, two fried eggs and arugula. My family all tried the potato pancakes, but I stuck with the home fries. They also had a wide variety of mimosas which I like because I’m not the biggest fan of orange juice. I had a pear mimosa which I sipped on throughout the meal and thoroughly enjoyed. We were all very pleased with our meals and the best part was I noticed a sign that said all the produce they use is grown at a farm in my town a few miles from my house called EatWell Natural Farm.
After brunch we walked to the National Mall to walk the tidal basin and check out the cherry blossoms that were in their peak bloom. Since peak bloom is only a few days the crowds were absolutely insane! But the beautiful views and weather made it all worth it.
After bearing the crowds and walking the tidal basin we were exhausted and ready to head back to my house in southern Maryland. We enjoyed a relaxing evening of red wine and cooking together. We made grilled chicken, my greek kabob recipe. With grilled veggies, home made pita bread, hummus, and tzatziki.
Easter Sunday was a bit more relaxing. I recently purchased the Beachbody 21 day fix and have been trying to follow the meal plan, but being in DC all weekend made it a bit difficult, so I will get back on track on Monday. But I am loving the workouts! So I did a Dirty 30 Fix workout before making my whole wheat pancakes for my family for Easter brunch. I forgot to take any pictures today, opps! Later Sunday afternoon we went to my uncle’s fiancé’s house for Easter dinner. All the food and desserts were so delicious I’m so upset I forgot to photograph. When we got back home we relaxed with full bellies and watched Dirty Dancing, such a classic!
Overall such a fun and busy weekend with my family.
