Happy Happy Friday Friends. This week has felt extremely long and I don’t know about you but I am so ready for the weekend. Tom and I will be working a 5k Color Run on Saturday morning then head into DC for the day/night to celebrate my birthday and cross off a few of my Birthday To Do’s. Follow along on Instagram for all the fun. Oh and also don’t forget to enter in this Quest Bar Giveaway I’m hosting on Instagram. Quest recently came out with a new flavor, Mocha Chocolate Chip, it’s definitely one of my new favs!
The whole idea of this blog is to showcase how I balance my healthy lifestyle by working out, eating healthy, but also occasionally eat desserts or other foods that some might label ‘off limits’. On my Instagram you typically see all the indulgent desserts I make myself or find from local places such as doughnuts, cupcakes, or pudding pie. But during the week I usually try to keep my desserts small and clean, whether it be something I make myself or a grocery store find. I want you to know that you don’t have to deprive yourself of sweets or anything labeled with sugar if trying to lose or maintain weight. Because it’s something I enjoy so much I have a little treat every night, it’s all about making the right choices and portion size.
We all know that eating sugar in excess can cause cavities and tooth decay so limiting your intake can make a huge difference to your oral health. Remember not to forget regular checkups with your Dentist in Seattle or wherever you might live though! Indulging in the occasional sweet treat is not going to do too much damage, but you can never be too careful where looking after your teeth is concerned.
Today for Friday Favorites I wanted to share with you some Convenient Healthy and Tasty Desserts that I personally enjoy. All of these items can probably be found at Target or your local grocery or health food store. While I love making my own desserts, during the busy work week it’s much more convenient to have something prepackaged, but I try to choose options that also have quality ingredients
Angie’s Boom Chicka Pop
I’ve featured Angie’s popcorn several times before and they just keep coming out with more delicious flavors. My most recent find is milk chocolate drizzle. I love snacking on this on a Friday evening as Tom and I settle in to watch our shows on the DVR from the week. Popcorn is light enough I don’t feel super guilty if I eat a large bowl and my sweet tooth is satisfied. I also suggest the Sweet and Salty flavor.
Lenny and Larry’s Cookies
I love splitting these cookies in half or in quarters. They are so soft and chewy! I usually find them at Vitamin Shoppe, but recently noticed Target had the Snickerdoodle and Double Chocolate flavors in the sports supplements aisle. Or you could purchase online. All their cookies are made with non GMO ingredients and are a good source of protein.
Usually when it comes to ice cream I want the REAL thing. Not a low fat version or banana nice cream. But I can’t get over how delicious Halo Top is. It’s low in calories, high in protein, and low in sugar, and most pints are around 240 calories, yes the WHOLE pint! My personal favorites are the Chocolate Mocha Chip and Oatmeal Cookie.
Justin’s Mini Peanut Butter Cups
Three of these mini dark chocolate peanut butter cups is my favorite dessert to have during the week. Because peanut butter and chocolate, enough said! These are a bit pricier than normal peanut butter cups. But made with quality chocolate and ingredients, it’s totally worth it in my opinion! Sorry this photo is from Halloween, lol.
Eating a few pieces of 80% cocoa or higher dark chocolate is one of the cleanest desserts. Most chocolate bars have added butter and/or sugar. But the higher percent of cocoa, the less likely they are to have added ingredients. I usually buy a Ghirardeli bar and have been wanting to try these Eating Evolved bars.
Larabar makes some delicious snack bars and recently came out with these dessert flavored bites. They are in small bite size pieces and come in a variety of flavors. I’ve actually tried and love them all, these chocolate brownie bites have to be my favorite though. The only ingredients are dates, nuts, and chocolate. Delicious clean treat!
Fruit and Nut Butter
Not just any nut butter, I enjoy apple slices with Snickerdoodle Buff Bakes or eat Wild Friends Espresso straight from the jar just to name a few of my favorites.
Warm Quest Bar
If you haven’t tried warming up a quest bar in the microwave or oven you don’t know what your missing! Just a few seconds and It makes it taste like a warm cookie. I’m giving away a variety of my favorite Quest bars on my Instagram, all of which taste amazing plain or warmed up a bit. Quest bars are high in protein, gluten and soy free, and only contain 1-2 grams of sugar.
Yogurt with PB2
If I’m craving something like ice cream I also like to add 1-2 tablespoons plain or chocolate PB2 to vanilla Greek yogurt. It makes it extra thick and I love the peanut butter taste. Throw in a few chocolate chips to really satisfy your sweet tooth.
When doing some research I realized there are many other Convenient Healthy Dessert options I haven’t tried yet from this Women’s Health list and this Eat This Not That list. I need to try Yasso Frozen Greek yogurt bars, they have a new Toffee Caramel Chocolate Chip Flavor, yum!.
If I have the time to make a quick healthy treat, it’s usually always these Chocolate Caramel Protein Fudge Bites. We easily eat a batch throughout the week, but they keep in the freezer so they last awhile. For other tasty homemade healthy treats look at my Healthy Desserts Pinterest Board.
