What are some of things that stress you out about travel? Forgetting to correctly set the home security system? Arriving to the airport on time? Remembering your passport? Maybe some pre flight jitters? Did you ever think about how the amount of stress traveling in itself puts on your body. In an airport it’s difficult to move around a whole lot, burn off energy, or take your mind of those stressors. But now there’s a better way to travel with ROAM Fitness. ROAM is the first facility of its kind placing a gym and shower amenities inside of the airport terminal so you don’t need to compromise your health on travel days. Last week I had the opportunity to tour and workout in ROAM Fitness’s first location inside Baltimore Washington International airport.
About ROAM Fitness
ROAM Fitness is located passed security at the D/E terminal. If you’re early for a flight or are stuck with a delay, what better way to use your time than by working out? Upon arriving to ROAM and informing their friendly staff you would like to use the facility, you will be asked to take a few minutes to create an account and then be offered three different pricing plans. You can purchase a day pass for $25, Month pass for $100, or Year Pass for $350. Each pass gives you access to the gym, workout gear rental, and showers.
I choose to rent the workout gear on my visit, which is all mens or women’s Lululemon tops and bottoms and Brooks Shoes. They also have Lululemon apparel available for purchase. Upon changing and storing my belongs in the locker space I explored the Technogym cardio equipment. They use Unity for different entertainment options such as using apps like Netflix, Verizon TV, Facebook, Fitbit, My Fitness Pal, and more. For strength training equipment they have a variety of dumbbells, a TRX system, and medicine balls in varying weights. They also have mats and foam rollers available for stretching. Who doesn’t need a good stretch session pre or post travel?
After doing a quick workout I made my way back into the shower space. ROAM has three showers that you need to rent either ahead of time or upon arriving for your workout. The shower area is stocked with towels, hygiene amenities, and Malin + Goetz body wash, shampoo, and conditioner. After my shower I changed back into the clothes I wore to the airport and dropped off my rental workout gear and towel in a basket. Everything was extremely clean and during my whole visit at ROAM I felt like I was an elite living a luxurious life.
If you need a healthy post workout snack, ROAM is stocked with Sweet and Strong approved protein, granola bars, beverages, and snacks. Way better than the traditional airport food options if you ask me.
Other FACTS about ROAM
What else do you need to know about ROAM Fitness besides the fact that it’s a genius idea and I wish I would have thought of it first…. They also partner with Lounge Key and Priority Pass members and offer discounted pricing plans. ROAM is hoping to open at least two more locations before the end of 2017 and many more in 2018. Hope they will come to a city near you so you can be Free to Move while traveling.
