What are some of things that stress you out about travel?  Arriving to the airport on time? Remembering your passport?  Maybe some pre flight jitters?  Did you ever think about how the amount of stress traveling in itself puts on your body.  In an airport it’s difficult to move around a whole lot, burn off energy, or take your mind of those stressors.  But now there’s a better way to travel with ROAM Fitness.  ROAM is the first facility of its kind placing a gym and shower amenities inside of the airport terminal so you don’t need to compromise your health on travel days.  Last week I had the opportunity to tour and workout in ROAM Fitness’s first location inside Baltimore Washington International airport.

ROAM Amenities

I choose to rent the workout gear on my visit, which is all mens or women’s Lululemon tops and bottoms and Brooks Shoes.  They also have Lululemon apparel available for purchase.  Upon changing and storing my belongs in the locker space I explored the Technogym cardio equipment.   They use Unity for different entertainment options such as using apps like Netflix, Verizon TV, Facebook, Fitbit, My Fitness Pal, and more.  For strength training equipment they have a variety of dumbbells, a TRX system, and medicine balls in varying weights.  They also have mats and foam rollers available for stretching.  Who doesn’t need a good stretch session pre or post travel?

After doing a quick workout I made my way back into the shower space.  ROAM has three showers that you need to rent either ahead of time or upon arriving for your workout.  The shower area is stocked with towels, hygiene amenities, and Malin + Goetz body wash, shampoo, and conditioner.  After my shower I changed back into the clothes I wore to the airport and dropped off my rental workout gear and towel in a basket.  Everything was extremely clean and during my whole visit at ROAM I felt like I was an elite living a luxurious life.

Other FACTS about ROAM

What else do you need to know about ROAM Fitness besides the fact that it’s a genius idea and I wish I would have thought of it first….  They also partner with Lounge Key and Priority Pass members and offer discounted pricing plans.  ROAM is hoping to open at least two more locations before the end of 2017 and many more in 2018.  Hope they will come to a city near you so you can be Free to Move while traveling.

no doubt air travel is stressful! I don’t think I’ve ever had enough time during a layover to do a workout, though. I’d probably take a pass on this, though, a little more than I’d want to pay with all the rentals involved.

Hi Kimberly. I like the idea because I live over an hour from the airport, so I can get there early, avoid traffic and not miss my workout for the day. The renting equipment is optional if you don’ have your own. 🙂

I would rather relax with a book at the airport to calm down, get a glass of wine or a coffee – and then get some fresh air and go for a walk once I arrive at my destination. This seems super stressful! Unless, of course, you travel 5 days per week and this is your only option.

I think ROAM is great for people who travel often for work or like myself if I can squeeze in a workout before traveling I feel much better about the indulging that’s most likely going to take place 😉

THIS IS SUCH A GREAT IDEA!
Even though we don’t travel very often, my husband is super paranoid about getting to the airport too late, super long lines in security, and missing the flight altogether. As a result, we always end up sitting at our gate for at least 90 min before our flight which would be the perfect amount of time to squeeze in a quick workout.
Plus I’m always a little stir-crazy sitting in the airport and there are never very healthy options in the eating department.

Yes we’re the same way about the airport. Especially because we live an hour or more away depending on traffic. I usually have to skip my workout if we have an early flight, but love that this is now an option.

This is one of the best ideas I’ve ever seen. It makes the idea of staying/having to sit in an airport for a long time a lot easier.

I totally agree Emily! I would much rather spend the hour being active than waiting around anxiously.

I really enjoyed my entire experience with ROAM so I’m really hoping they do well in their first year and start expanding!

Never heard of this! Most of the airports I am in are overseas. This is so cool!
