Oh it’s so hard to get back to reality after being away from home for over a week. I forgot what it was like to cook dinner, take the dog out, and actual respond to emails for a bit, but now it’s back to reality and starting a new week. A few weeks ago I attended the IDEA World Blogfest Convention in Las Vegas, read all about last year’s convention here. I already shared all the yummy eats with you, so today I’m recapping the sessions and workouts we participated in.
I landed in Vegas Wednesday evening and after getting settled in the Westgate hotel I headed out with Marilena and Bari to the Neon Museum. The Museum has many of the old neon signs that had been taking down from the Vegas strip over the years. While many of them don’t light up anymore, it was still really cool. They call it their junkyard, and each little area had a theme. It’s a one hour guided tour and I would definitely do it again, maybe in the daylight to really see the signs.
We were up early for the first morning of sessions. After a Welcome from the fabulous Sweat Pink ladies who put the whole convention together, we listened to Katy Widrick about Making Your Old Content New Again.
When I first started blogging I had no idea what SEO meant, my picture quality was poor, and I only shared my posts on Facebook. After listening to Katy’s presentation I know I need to go back and redo posts and recipes, so be on the lookout for at least one makeover post each week.
Our next presenter was Lindsay Valdez from Blogher She Knows Media. She spoke to us on the 5 Most Important SEO Elements of a blog post. Last year I had no idea what SEO meant, search engine optimization. And now I love using the Yoast plug in, it analyzes all of Lindsay’s five elements for you. The presentation was still interesting though because I didn’t know that I should be changing up keyword phrases in order to appear more in google. The things non bloggers have no idea that we do behind the scenes!
We then headed over to listen to the Idea World Opening Ceremonies and Keynote speaker. The presenters are always so inspiring.
We then had time to walk around the Fitness and Nutrition Expo, hello lots of samples and freebies!
Literally ate samples for lunch before heading into our Strong by Zumba workout. Now I know there is workout for everyone out there. And I am not someone that enjoys Zumba, basically because I have no rhythm and trip over my feet when dancing. BUT Strong by Zumba is SO different and NO dancing, YES! You do more HIIT moves with the music. It was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed the workout. I highly suggest giving it a try if you have a studio that offers the class by you.
So I could finish walking around the expo I skipped the last blogging session. I never even made it to the fitness side, there were so many booths.
Day 2 started even earlier with a ModelFit Sculpt workout. The workout used light weights and was like a mix of Barre and Pilates at a fast pace. I enjoyed it, but usually prefer more HITT style workouts, but again there’s something out there for everyone.
After the workout we refueled with a breakfast sponsored by the Bell Institute. Then headed into the conference room to listen to our keynote speaker Todd Durkin. Todd brought so much energy and has an inspiring story on how he got into the health and fitness industry. He reminded me that everyone has a story on how they got where they are today and we all need to share it to inspire others. We also got to leave with a copy of his WOW book, which I’m so excited to dive into.
We then had a presentation by Amanda Vogel on How to Make Money Guest Blogging. Anyone that blogs that has a degree in nutrition or exercise physiology could really benefit from guest blogging. I however do not and choose just to blog and share my personal story. But I still got a few different ideas from Amanda’s presentation on working with other similar bloggers.
After sitting for a bit it was nice to head into another workout sponsored by Vital Proteins with Kaisa Keranen, do you follow Kaisa on Instagram, she has great workouts and moves and an amazing body! Her workout was my favorite of the weekend, she walked us through three different moves at a time and offered variations for each. I wish I had a recording of the workout because I learned so many new moves.
Then it was time to head back to the conference room for a brand panel discussion on developing long term relationships with brands. I found this interesting because I’ve done some campaigns with brands, but would love to develop longer relationships throughout the year. I’m always willing to try new products that fit my health and fitness blog, and would love to work more with the brands I really enjoy in developing recipes and workouts for you all.
Then later that evening we had a Blogfest Networking Happy Hour where we got to sit back, enjoy snacks, wine, mocktails from Lacroix and chat with other bloggers.
On Saturday we get to sign up for any of the Idea World sessions. I chose a course on organizing Boot Camp workouts, a BootyBarre workout, and a workout by Todd Durkin. I listened and got some great ideas from the Boot Camp presenter, worked by booty and all those tiny muscles with bootybarre, and enjoyed some great partner and circuit training with Todd. It was such a fun day, but I was SO exhausted by the end. We were also able to sign up for classes on Sunday too which is really nice because you get credits for maintaining your fitness certifications for many of the courses. I however had an evening flight and said my goodbyes after another great weekend with some fellow bloggers and fitness professionals.
Overall I really enjoyed meeting up with some of the blogging friends I met last year, and enjoyed talking to new ones. Everyone in the health and fitness field is so positive and happy with what they do. I have some great takeaways from our blogging presentations. And got to try some new workouts. Until next time Idea World!
