Hi friends!  Few days no talk.  After traveling over the weekend I needed a few days to relax.  I had every intention of sharing a Weekend Recap with you of my girls trip to Chicago, but just couldn’t get my mind right to sit and type.  So today I’m brining you a What I Ate Wednesday with some of my latest eats and the delicious food I had during my short stay in Chicago.

One of the reasons I was so exhausted by Sunday was because Friday I spent the entire day stressed out in the airport.  At 3:00 AM I noticed I had received a text saying that my morning flight to Chicago was cancelled.  I immediately popped out of bed and called the airline.  I was supposed to land in Chicago at 10:00 AM, my girlfriends and I all coordinated our flights to land around the same time.  But the only flight they could get me on would land at 10:00 PM, a twelve hour difference!  I was furious, and hoped to get up to the airport to try to catch a flight standby.  Problem was every direct flight from Baltimore to Chicago was cancelled.  Uh it was a stressful day, I waited in so many lines, talked to many different airline workers and in the end made it my friend Liz’s place by 11:00 PM Friday night.  I was glad to make it, but not so happy with the airline and all the stress.

I hadn’t seen my girlfriends since last May so we had a lot to catch up on and two engagements and a baby boy to celebrate.  Saturday morning when we woke up we just chatted over coffee before walking around Oak Park to Delia’s Kitchen for brunch.  All the avocado toast, eggs, fruit, and potatoes.  🙂

After brunch we grabbed coffees and then walked back to Liz’s to get ready for the day and head into the city.  It was a gorgeous afternoon for walking around, grabbing a day drink, and catching up with your college best friends.

We stopped at River Roast and Bub City for a drink.  The Save a Horse, Ride a Cucumber Cocktail from Bub City was my favorite, so refreshing, and seriously the name, lol.

Then we headed to RPM Italian for our dinner reservation.  We started with the ricotta toast as an appetizer.  Then I ordered the Mama DePandi’s Bucatini with a meatball and side of broccolini.  Everything was so delicious from the bread to the fresh homemade pasta.  We all thoroughly enjoyed our Italian dishes.

Before heading back we walked to Pop’s for Champagne to toast to planning a get together, good friends, and all the upcoming celebrations we have with two weddings next Spring.

Sunday morning before our flights back we had breakfast sandwiches at Lea’s.  Egg, bacon, cheese, avocado, on freshly baked baguette and roasted potatoes, yum!

What I Ate Wednesday

Thankfully no flight issues on the way home.  I arrived back in southern MD around 6:00 PM and already had the ingredients ready to make this Southwest Chicken Salad for dinner.  And we had leftover Chocolate Chip Cookies from their post make over for dessert.  I always need my sweet ending to the weekend.

The best chocolate chip cookie recipe. Soft, chewy, and made with a secret ingredient.

Uh it was so frustrating, and I’m pretty sure I caught a cold now because of it. But so worth it to spend some time with the girls.

This is too fun!! I’m sorry you had to deal with all the flight stress, though! I always dread BWI….Glad it ended up being a good weekend with friends 🙂 I’m feeling very fortunate that I live fairly close to two of my college best friends (Delaware and DC!). I’ve never been to Chicago but it sounds fun!

Hi lady! Oh no! A cancelled flight is my worst nightmare. At least you were able to make it at all. And we also went to RPM Italian when I was in Chicago earlier this year. So delish — and I loved the scene too. Looks like you had fun in spite of the early travel woes! 🙂

Yes a cancelled flight literally is a nightmare. I’m almost scared to fly anywhere now, so afraid that will happen again. I felt so stuck. But in the end it was still a great weekend, just a bit shorter than I would have liked.

Glad that you finally made it to Chicago, and I hope that you loved the reunion! With my Portland trip this/last week, 3 out of my 4 flights were delayed. Luckily none of mine were as extreme as your delay, but it always makes travel seem more tiring.

What is the deal with delayed flights lately? It really puts a damper in traveling. But still looks like you had an amazing time in Portland!
