Hi friends! Hope your week is off to a great start. This past weekend we hosted some of Tom’s football coaches over the house for a little Football, Beer, and BBQ. Tom did all the smoking of a pork shoulder and chicken thighs and I handled the sides and dessert. I failed miserably at taking enough pictures. One of Tom’s friends brought a beer horn to enjoy some of the beer with which everyone thought was very cool. I wished I got a picture of it! This always seems to happen anytime I host. But wanted to share with you all the recipes for everything I made to give you some inspiration in case you have any upcoming Fall party events.

For appetizers I set out a charcuterie board of course, along with nuts, pretzels, crackers, and we had a variety of snack food.

Charcuterie Board

I made these Soft Pretzels Bites and the kickin’ cheese sauce, perfect for a football party right!

Then by Tom’s request we also had Pizza Logs, a childhood favorite of his.

Tom aced it on the cooking. I’m definitely not taking over the smoker anytime soon, if ever. I’ll leave that part to him. I honestly don’t know what Tom used on the pork and chicken, but it was amazing. He makes his own rub and reads online how to smoke them. He won’t tell me what’s in his rub – he says it’s a secret recipe… I’ll find out one day. I know he bought some Bear Mountain BBQ pellets and used those for the first time, so they probably added to the flavour.

For sides I made this Creamy Mac and Cheese and my favorite hot Bacon Potato Salad recipe. I sub green beans in replace of asparagus, but the bacon in the salad steals the show. Totally failed on pictures of either of these, you’ll just have to try to make them for yourself 😉 We were thinking about getting some sub sandwiches in for everyone to enjoy, but I couldn’t find a sub near me that I knew would be great. It finally dawned on me when I was putting the last touches to the party, I could have done a quick Google search and would have got my answer straight away! Planning big events can shove all other stuff out of your mind it seems.

For dessert we had Fudgy Brownies and my Chocolate Chip Cookies

Chewy Fudgy Homemade Brownies. The best chocolate chip cookie recipe. Soft, chewy, and made with a secret ingredient.

Besides a shake in the morning after a run I ate all of the above the rest of the day. After indulging in so many of our favorite foods I’ve been trying to get back on track this week. It’s been lots of veggies, lean protein, and sweet potatoes the past few days. But weekends are for treating yourself right!

I like warm dishes so I like mac and cheese and only potato salad if it’s warm. Not a fan of the cold stuff.
