Hello Friends! And Happy Friday! Any fun plans for the weekend? We have reservations for dinner out tonight, celebrating Valentines Day only a week and a half late, oh well. And then plan to get some things done around the house over the rest of weekend. Be sure to follow along on Instagram.
But now it’s time for Friday Favorites where I share all things in food, fitness, and life I’ve been loving lately.
Foodstirs DIY Baking Kits
Friends at Foodstirs were kind enough to send me a few of their popular organic baking mixes to try. Over the weekend I had a chance to make the Salted Chocolate Chip Brownies. I had never thought of putting sea salt on top of brownies, and oh it made them so tasty. The pan of brownies did not last long in our house. And I’m so excited to try the Snickerdoodle and Pancake mixes.
Foodstirs baking mixes and kits are made with organic non-GMO ingredients such as fair trade chocolate and cocoa, cane sugar, heirloom flour, and chemical free colors. While I’m a huge fan of baking from scratch I can truly appreciate the convenience of baking mixes, especially when life happens and you all of a sudden have a work luncheon, baby shower, and birthday all in the same week, right. And if don’t consider yourself a baker, these mixes are easy to follow and only take about 25 minutes from start to finish.
Looking at their website there are so many other mixes I want to try, like the minute mug cakes to quickly curb my sweet tooth cravings. Dr. Praeger’s Veggie Burgers
Since we covered dessert first now onto my latest favorite meal on the weekends when I’m home. I kept seeing these Dr. Praeger’s Veggie Burgers all over social media the last few months and was so excited when I found them at my local grocery store. The California Veggie Burgers are my fav. Dr. Praeger’s was created by two doctors and all their burgers are made from simply ingredients and are filled with veggies and have about 5 grams of protein. I just cook them in a skillet for a few minutes on each side and love eating them on top of a salad, with sweet potatoes, and/or a runny egg. While I’m not a vegetarian I love convenient meals like these that don’t take long to cook and are easy to get in some vegetables.
Build Your Own Bowls
As you know from my What I Ate Wednesday posts I am obsessed with any restaurant where you can build your own bowl, hello all the toppings! While visiting my parents in Cleveland last weekend I decided to re-create one of my mom’s favorite DC restaurants Cava Grill at home. I cooked this Oven Roasted Chicken Shawarma recipe and served with Basmati Rice, a tomato cucumber salad, tzatziki, hummus, lettuce, and roasted vegetables. They were delicious and fun that everyone could customize their own meal at home.
While home last weekend I also got to attend one of my best friends son’s 1st birthday party. They had a beautiful cupcake display and the sprinkles one was calling my name. Yum!
Then when I got back home on Sunday I was craving something sweet for after dinner, but was tired from traveling to bake. I then remembered I had frozen some strawberry cupcakes from new years and just needed to frost them. I topped them with a cream cheese frosting and they were so good! Double cupcakes for the win over the weekend.
And now that I may have you drooling over all my latest eats, how bout I throw in my favorite workout lately. I posted it awhile ago on the blog this Abs Circuit Workout, and have since done it almost every week. It’s definitely a killer for the abs and makes you feel a little less guilty for that second cupcake 😉
