Summer Bucket List 2018

Hello friends and happy almost Summer!  I believe the official start is this Thursday the 21st, but it’s Summer time here because we are out of school, wahoo!  Which means stay tuned for more blog posts each week including recipes, workouts, and favorite things as my schedule is pretty clear until September.

Keeping the tradition two years strong of sharing with you what’s on my Summer Bucket List, if you’d like to check out last years you can find it here.  I love that this list holds me accountable for some of the things I need to do and gives me fun ideas for the weekends.  And of course I hope to inspire you all.  Be sure to share in the comments below something on your Summer Bucket List!

Dominican Republic Punta Cana Majestic Resort

Tidy up the house; organize, get rid of things, deep clean.  I’m currently reading The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up and hope to apply some of Marie Kondo’s tips.

I also hope to read plenty of fiction novels, currently I have What Alice Forgot, A Stranger in the House, and The Favorite Sister on my reading list.  If you’re looking for other suggestions I’ve read and highly recommend All the Missing Girls, The Husband’s Secret, and The Family Next Door.

Summer 2017 Bucket List

Summer 2017 is almost here!  This year I finally sat down and made a bucket list and am sharing it with you to hold me accountable.  I always try to savoy every moment of beautiful warm weather and being off in the Summer.  I know I’ll try new recipes, lay by the pool, and explore new restaurants so I wanted to come up with other Summer Fun.  This is my own personal list, but I hope it can give you some ideas if making your own.

2017 Fall Bucket List

Hi there and Happy Thursday!  Tomorrow is officially the first day of Fall, which in my opinion means all things pumpkin are now acceptable.  The weather is a bit warmer here this week, but I’m so ready for booties, sweaters, and blanket scarves.

Just like I did for the Summer, I thought it would be fun to share my Fall Bucket List of all things I want to accomplish and do to enjoy this beautiful season.

Visit a Pumpkin Patch, duh!

Go to a college football game.  I get my fill of high school football every Friday night, I’d love to make it to a college game.

Carve pumpkins and roast pumpkin seeds, we always used to do this growing up.

Make and/or eat my favorite pumpkin foods; pumpkin cheesecake, bagels, cupcakes, puppy chow.

Visit a winery.  Wineries during the Fall in the DMV are so beautiful with the leaves changing, and well wine!

Dress up for Halloween.  I plan to dress up at school and for the Bodypump 103 launch at my local gym.  For the launch there’s four of us so we’re being the four seasons, I’m Spring.  Open to any suggestions for an elementary school appropriate costume for the PE teacher.

Visit a Sunflower Field, I believe there are some in upper MD near Baltimore I would love to visit.

Make a new Cocktail or try making Mulled Wine.  I have a long list of Drinks on my Pinterest Board I’ve never made.

Host a College Football Game Day Party with football foods or smoked BBQ.

I really hope my family visits and I get to host Thanksgiving this year.

Go to a Beer Tasting.

Enjoy another all you can eat brunch.  Our trip to Cava was one of the best brunches I’ve ever eaten!

Try a new meal delivery service.  I tried Blue Apron and Hello Fresh last year and would love to try another service, especially becasue I’ve been needing some dinner inspo ideas.

Go on a hike.  The leaves changing is probably one of my favorite parts about Fall.

Visit a Museum.  I’ve lived outside of DC for seven years and have only been to one Museum.  I really want to go see the Newseum, Holocaust Museum, or the new African American History Museum.

From my Summer Bucket list, I still want to master baking and decorating a cake.

Try a Sweatbox or Blast class.  You know I love trying new fitness classes.

Work on possibly getting a spin instructor certification.  I’ve also considered looking into becoming a health coach.  Either way, continue my education in the health and fitness field.

Run a race.  I’ve been wanted to do this since I came down with the flu and missed the Cherry Blossom Race.

Host a couples dinner party.

Go out to eat a good Italian Dinner.  After my trip to Chicago and RPM Italian, I feel like my homecooked Italian dinners don’t even compare.

Have a bonfire.

Decorate the house for Fall.

Watch Hocus Pocus, love that movie!

Play Mini Golf. Going on the Fall Bucket List.

See Fireworks. CHECK!  Saw some awesome fireworks on 4th of July.

Trigger Point, Shakeology, Summer Vibes and other Friday Favorites

Hello friends and Happy Friday!  We have one more week, ONE, left of the school year, I can make it, I think…..  I don’t want to wish the weekend away but I am so ready to be on Summer Break.  When I can enjoy some time traveling, reading, and relaxing by the pool.  For this weekend we don’t have many plans which probably means I’ll spend most of my time in the kitchen, outside, or at the gym, follow along on Instagram for all the fun.  Now to the real reason you stopped by the blog today, for Friday Favorites where I share all the food, fitness, and things around the web I’ve been loving lately.

Trigger Point

Trigger Point makes a variety of foam rollers, handheld rollers, and massage balls.  I have done a little foam rolling myself and have read about all the benefits of self-massaging your sore muscles to keep you moving well .  My friends at Trigger Point were kind enough to send me a few of their most popular products that relieve muscle aches; the GRID Foam RollerMB2 Roller, and NANO Foot Roller.

Trigger Point Therapy self massage rollers

I have started to incorporate more foam rolling into my workouts, so stay tuned for a Foam Roll Routine in the next couple of weeks.  And as someone who works on their feet all day long I have really enjoyed using the Nano foot roller to relieve foot pain.

Trigger Point Trigger Point Therapy NANO foot roller

I’m also so glad to have these handheld rollers for my Summer travels, we all know sitting on an airplane for hours is not very comfortable for our bodies.  All the rollers can be used to roll through tight muscles, knots, and kinks.

Vegan Vanilla Shakeology

I’ve tried several protein powders and Shakeology is by far one of my favorites.  I use one scoop in my morning smoothie along with some fruit and spinach.

Vanilla Vegan Shakeology Smoothie

The powder itself is packed with protein, probiotics, superfoods, vitamins, and other nutrients.  Beachbody recently released a Vegan Vanilla flavor.  While I don’t have a dairy intolerance and don’t eat a Vegan diet, I still wanted to try the new flavor.  I typically have not been a fan of plant based proteins, but the Vegan Vanilla is delicious.  I actually think I might like it better than the Vanilla Whey Shakeology.

Friend’s Engagements

In the last week and a half two of my closest girlfriends from college have gotten engaged!  My friend Kelly while on the beach in Mexico and my friend Caitlin while sitting under the Eiffel Tower in Paris, seriously how romantic!  I’m so excited to celebrate their engagements, wedding plan, have bachelorettes, and just have reasons for us all to get together in the next year.  The last time my college girlfriends and I were all together was last Spring so I’m so excited to see them all.

Summer Vibes

Yesterday was the first day of June, and it’s crazy to me that the official start to Summer is not until the 21st.  What are you doing this Summer and what’s on your bucket list?  I need some ideas besides lay at the pool and eat ice cream =)  I’m also desperately in need of a Summer wardrobe shopping trip!

And if you’re trying to get bikini ready, don’t forget to check out my Fitness Page for some great Cardio and Strength Workouts, especially this Killer Abs Circuit.

Protein Snacks, Juices, a Fitness GIVEAWAY and other Friday Favorites

Hello there!  We are long overdue for a Friday Favorites post here and I have some fun protein snacks, juices, and a fitness giveaway to share with you.  But first, happy official start to Summer!  Any fun plans for the weekend?  This was our first week off school for Summer break and I’m not sure who enjoys the time off more, the teachers or the kids, hehe.  But since I’ll have more time at home be sure to check back here more frequently for blog updates as I’ll hope to post 2-3 times each week.  And you can always see what I’m up to over on Instagram.

Quest Birthday Cake Protein Bar

I used to eat Quest bars daily as mid-morning or afternoon snacks, but I honestly got sick of the taste and haven’t had one in awhile.  But I was recently sent some of their Birthday Cake Protein Bars to try and they are definitely my new favorite!  The flavor tastes completely different than regular Quest bars.  And while I still feel the ingredients list is so-so, I love that these are a great combination of protein, healthy fats, and carbs if you’re eating on the go.  And seriously, who can resist anything with sprinkles?!?

Birthday Cake Quest Bar

Garden of Flavor Cold-Pressed Juices

Garden of Flavor recently sent me a variety of their cold-pressed juices and energy juices to try.  I’m usually not huge into drinking juices as a meal or ‘detox’, but I’ve been sipping on these in the morning or as a snack.  Especially in the Summer months they can be very refreshing.  Garden of Flavor juices are cold-pressed, organic, never heated, and made from fresh vegetables, fruits, and nuts.  They have a variety of juices that contain vitamins, minerals, and enzymes.

Garden of Flavor Cold Pressed Juices

My favorite Garden of Flavor juices though were the Cold-Pressed Energy drinks.  They use quality ingredients such as Guayusa, Wheatgrass, Aronia, Turmeric & Ginger, and Reishi & Pear to provide natural sources of energy, yea I had no idea what half of those were either until I read about them here.  I honestly can’t choose a favorite flavor, I’ve enjoyed them all!  Garden of Flavor is based out of Cleveland but their juices can be found all across the US, find a store near you here.

FITT Giveaway

How does a free one year membership to any gym of your choice sound?!?  Amazing right!  While I love gyms and fitness studios, they definitely come with a hefty price tag.  FITT, your guide to health and wellness in over 25 cities is giving away just that.  To enter simply subscribe to their newsletter in your city, you can enter here.  And even if you’re not chosen they’re also giving away gift cards to Whole Foods and Lululemon, which I think is just as great 😉  Today is the last day to enter, Good Luck!

Nutberg Drinkable Meals

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve looked at a meal replacement shake ingredients and been shocked by the number of additives, preservatives, and/or items I can’t pronounce.  Well that’s not the case with Nutberg.  Their drinkable meals are a mix of whole food ingredients that act as a meal for when you’re on the go.  They are meant to keep you full for 2-3 hours and come in three different flavors, Classic, Cocoa, and Banana.  Typically I’m a fan of making my morning smoothies, but I took a few days off to try each flavor of Nutberg.  The taste was just ok for me, but it definitely kept me full until mid-morning/lunch time.  Overall I think Nutberg is great for use when traveling or on the go and you want a quality meal replacement.

Lunch Dates

Now that I’m officially on break I fully plan to enjoy making lunches at home or going out at least once a week for a treat.  I can never eat out during the school year unless I had something delivered, but that’s just not worth it to me.  I’d rather have a sit down lunch date experience and I got exactly that this week as I visited my sister in DC at work and we had a nice long lunch at Chopt.  I had the NY Street Cart Salad and took home a Kabob Cobb for Tom.  Literally I could eat a giant salad like this everyday and never get sick of them.

Questions of the Day:

What was your favorite meal or workout from last week?

Have you tried any new workout classes lately?

What’s your favorite meal to grill in the Summer?

New Workouts, Recipes, and Week in Review

Hi and thanks for stopping by the blog today.  Hope you had a great weekend mixed with some fun and relaxation.  Our weekend was extremely similar to last, in fact I felt like I was reliving it.  Only difference was I changed up some workouts and meals, all other down time was spend doing things around the house or lounging by the pool.  So instead of just sharing the Weekend Highlights, this post has new workouts and recipes I tried last week for Meghan’s Week in Review link up.

Last week I published two new recipe posts.  And these are recipes we eat ALL the time and should definitely be added to your weekly meal prep.

No Bake Brownie Protein Bites using real simple ingredients including collagen whey.

Make Ahead Blueberry Lemon Oatmeal Bake with All Whites 100% Liquid Egg Whites

I completed one of the items on my Summer Bucket List and tried TWO new workout classes.  I took Hot Power Fusion Yoga at CorePower Yoga, I’m not new to CorePower, but had never taken that particular class before.  Probably not the best idea to be doing hot yoga when the heat index was over 100, buttttt I sure sweated out a lot of toxins and it was a great stretch.

Corepower Yoga

And I am almost embarrassed to say that I took my first Orangetheory Fitness Class, I know I’m super late to the party.  In case you’re not familiar with Oragnethoery it’s a mix of being on the treadmill, row machine, and doing floor exercises.  I loved it and will write a class review after I visit a few more times.

Last week I had two lunch dates.  One with my older sister, I went into the city to meet her at Modern Market on her work break.

Modern Market

And the other with Tom at Panera before he headed to school for the evening football weight training.  I could eat their Strawberry Poppyseed Chicken Salad every day.

Panera Bread

I hate hate hate wasting food.  So after last weekends pizza night, I realized I had a bunch of cheeses leftover; mozzarella, parmesan, provolone, and ricotta and needed to use the up before they went bad.  I had frozen spinach and homemade marinara in the freezer, and combined this all with some ground turkey and Banza Chickpea Penne to make an easy pasta bake.

Pasta Bake

Saturday night we decided on a Mexican themed dinner.  I prepped salsa and guac, before we headed to the pool for a few hours.  Then made taco chicken burgers on the grill.  We wrapped them in tortillas and grilled the tortilla burgers for a few seconds on each side.  They were so good and paired perfectly with my spicy jalapeño margaritas.

And to end things on a sweet note, we made doughnuts, yes full on fried goodness doughnuts.  I was super nervous the first time I tried frying them a few months ago, but with a large pot it’s actually pretty easy.  I used this recipe but made them a bit smaller.  Tom was in charge of glazing and topping when they came out.  We used cinnamon sugar on some and a maple glaze on the others.  I seriously can’t pick a favorite, they’re both amazing.

Homemade Glazed Doughnuts

That’s it for all things food and fitness worth mentioning.  I hope you have a great week and be sure to follow me on Instagram as I’ll be traveling to Los Vegas for a bloggers conference at the end of the week.  Then to LA to visit my little sister for the weekend. YAY!

Week in Review; Meals, Workouts, and More

Hello friends hope you had a wonderful weekend and maybe even got to spend some time with Dad for Father’s Day.  This week my parents and little sister are coming into town for my uncle’s wedding , so we’re planning to have a special day for Dad with all his girls.  This past week was my first week of Summer Vacation, throughout break I plan on sharing a Week in Review highlighting meals, workouts, and small accomplishments.

Eats from the Week

It’s been hot in Southern MD and humid, I don’t even think we had a Spring this year.  I always crave chicken salad for lunch in the heat.  I made a Curry Chicken Salad from the Skinnytaste cookbook and ate it wrapped in collard green wraps for lunches during the week.

I love having the extra time to cook dinners when I’m off in the Summer.  One night I made these Banh Mi Bowls using chicken thighs.  The Crispy Chicken was SO good, almost tasted like bacon.

I photographed Enchilada Stuffed Sweet Potatoes and Blueberry Pie Steel Cut Oats and will have the recipes to you soon.

During the weekend I attended a baby shower on Saturday and shared all the cute Space themed decor on Insta Stories.  Tom and I went out for dinner and drinks together and ordered my favorite pizza combo, jalapeño and pepperoni from Red Oak Bistro, Mmmm spicy.

In honor of Father’s Day Sunday morning I made a Coffee Cake.  Growing up if Dad was out running errands on the weekends he alwayssss came home with a coffee cake and doughnut holes.  Can you tell where I get my love of sweets from?  I saved Dad a piece for this weekend.

Then Sunday night we smoked chicken using the BEST gift I ever bought Tom and I made a hot potato salad with green beans which is one of Tom’s favorite meals.  He is a dog dad after all, so we had to celebrate.

And for other accomplishments throughout the week I picked up some Summer Reading books, starting with The Husbands Secret.

I published two blog posts last week, a must try Cherry Pie Smoothie Recipe and Father’s Day Favorites, not too late to get dad a gift or spend some extra time with him.

Also spent some time cleaning and getting the house ready for when my family comes to stay with us this week.

And thanks to Megan and Kelli for sharing my Summer Bucket List, I accomplished a few things on it this week.

That pretty much wraps up the first week of Summer vacation.
